I Tried the Diamond Glow Facial, Here’s How It’s Different From a Hydrafacial

I try a lot of different beauty treatments for my job and while I’ve truly never met a facial that I didn't like I tend to always go back to the ever-popular Hydrafacial. That’s why when I heard about the Diamond Glow Facial, I knew I had to try it.

Here’s the deal: Similar to a Hydrafacial, it does three things: exfoliates, cleanses, and infuses product on a deeper level. But instead of a chemical exfoliation, this one exfoliates and resurfaces the skin with a patented diamond tip (hence the name). It also combines the three steps into one—so your esthetician doesn't have to change out the tips for each step.

It’s also totally customizable. Your esthetician will assess your skin and pick one of five medical-grade Skinmedica serums (either a vitamin C, a hydrating hyaluronic acid, a clarifying one for acne-prone skin, or a growth factor option for anti aging) to include in the treatment. Since I'm two months off accutane and I’m still pretty dry, we opted for the hydrating serum to plump up my combination skin.

I also enjoyed the fact that my esthetician, Erika Bozzo, focused on lymphatic drainage (by tracing the device away from my face and down toward the heart), which flushes toxins and stimulates blood flow. Let’s just say it was some much needed depuffing action to combat all the puffiness I was experiencing from a few too many glasses of wine the evening before.

Also of note, she did two full passes across my face, neck, and decollete for an even deeper clean. More often than not I find that the neck and decollete area are often skimmed over (or costs extra to address) in these types of treatments, but not in this case. Another feature of the Diamond Glow machine is that it can treat the delicate eye and lip area, specifically. Erika simply removed the exfoliating tip and concentrated on the eye area and lips with a gentle suction and surge of serum.

The Diamond Glow device alone takes about 30 minutes, but the facial I received at The Aesthetic Lounge in Newport Beach tacked on a few extra steps to make it a luxe, hour-long treatment. It started with a double cleanse, then the Diamond Glow device as I described above, followed by a hydrating sheet mask massaged in with cryo ice rollers to close my pores and lock in the moisture. She finished off with a relaxing arm and shoulder massage and, of course, a generous coat of SPF to send me off. (I'm newly obsessed with the Skin Better Science SPF 75 they gave me as a parting gift, by the way).

Post treatment my skin was so refreshed and felt instanly tighter and brighter. I woke up the next day with equally as glowy skin that was baby bottom soft and no irritation. Safe to say I’ll be going back and keeping this treatment in my back pocket for any pre-event prep.

The Diamond Glow costs $275 and if you want to book with Erika at The Aesthetic Lounge (a drop dead gorgeous, brand new Med Spa by the talented Dr. Kevin Sadati) I’m linking their Instagram.
